Privacy Policy

What we collect. When you use one of our three case checks (personal injury, criminal charges or a DUI stop), we collect the details you enter into that calculator: the facts about your accident, charge or stop that the tool asks for. If you continue through our intake questions, we also collect your name, city and state, phone number, email address, date of birth, what you are hoping to get out of a match with an attorney, and a short description of what happened in your own words. If you create a free membership account, we collect your name, email and a password. Once you are a member, we collect anything you save in a case tool, any posts, replies or likes you add to the community, any messages you send our team, and any call requests you submit. Only your name, email and password are required to open a membership account; everything else is optional, though skipping case details makes it harder for us to match you with the right attorney.

Why we collect it. We collect contact information so we, and the attorney we match you with, can reach you about your case. We collect case details so a match goes to an attorney whose practice actually fits your situation, and so a saved case result on your dashboard means something. We ask for your date of birth on the intake form because generally only an adult can retain an attorney directly on their own behalf; it helps us confirm that before a match is made.

Who sees it. Your information is seen by our own team and by the independently licensed attorney or attorneys in our network your case is referred to for a possible match. This site runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers and a Cloudflare D1 database), which stores and processes this information on our behalf as our hosting provider. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own advertising purposes.

State privacy rights. Depending on the state you live in, you may have rights to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. These rights and how they work vary by state. To make a request, email cases@thelegal.team and we will respond and tell you what applies where you live.

Contact consent and texts. Submitting the case check, the intake questions, or a membership signup means you agree that we, and an attorney we match you with, may contact you by phone, text or email about your case and your account. Message and data rates may apply. Agreeing to be contacted is never a condition of getting matched with an attorney or of using this site. Reply STOP to any text to opt out of future texts.

Your choices. You can ask to see, correct, export or delete the information we hold about you at any time by emailing cases@thelegal.team.

Cookies. This site uses a session cookie to keep you signed in to your free membership account. We do not use advertising, analytics or other tracking cookies.

Children. This site is intended for adults 18 and older, and our intake process asks for a date of birth to help confirm that. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Changes. If we change this policy, we will post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date at the top.
