FAQ

Questions, answered plainly.

What this site is, what it costs, and what happens after you tell us what happened.

Is TheLegal.Team a law firm?

No. TheLegal.Team is a lawyer matching and referral platform. It connects you with independently licensed attorneys in its network who are solely responsible for their own advice and representation. TheLegal.Team itself does not practice law or give legal advice.

How much does this cost me?

Using TheLegal.Team, the case checks, the free membership and getting matched with an attorney never costs you anything. If you go on to hire an attorney from the network, that attorney's own fee structure applies, and they will explain it to you directly before you agree to anything.

If it is free for me, how do you make money?

TheLegal.Team may receive a referral fee from a participating attorney when a match results in representation. That fee is never charged to you and never changes what an attorney charges for their own services. We say this plainly because you deserve to know how the free part works.

What happens after I tell you what happened?

A real person on the intake team reads your answers and looks for a vetted attorney who handles cases like yours in your state. The attorney or our team then reaches out by phone or email to set up your free case review. There is no guaranteed response time, and we would rather say that plainly than promise a number we cannot control.

Does using this site create an attorney-client relationship?

No. Nothing on this site, including the case snapshots, the intake questions, or the free membership, creates an attorney-client relationship. That only happens once you and a specific attorney agree to it directly, usually in writing.

Are the attorneys in the network real and licensed?

Attorneys who join the network are independently licensed in the states where they practice and are solely responsible for their own advice and representation. TheLegal.Team does not supervise their legal work.

Do you handle foreclosure?

Yes, in California and Nevada. If you have received a notice of default, a foreclosure filing, or a sheriff sale date, tell us what happened at the top of this page or use the foreclosure section and we will connect you with a foreclosure defense attorney in your state. Time matters in these cases, so do not wait for the sale date to get close.

Do you work with businesses that are owed money?

Yes. TheLegal.Team partners with law offices and small businesses to pursue unpaid invoices, delinquent accounts, and judgments that need enforcing through the attorney network. See collections for law offices and small businesses, then tell us about the accounts you are trying to recover.

What if my situation does not fit personal injury, criminal charges, or a DUI stop?

Those three cover the most common first questions people bring us, but the network also includes foreclosure defense, collections, family law, immigration, employment, estate planning, bankruptcy, workers compensation and business and contract law. Just tell us what happened in your own words and our team takes it from there.

Is my information kept private?

Your answers are used to match you with an appropriate attorney and are not sold to unrelated third parties. See the full privacy policy for exactly what is collected and how it is used.

Do I have to hire the attorney I get matched with?

No. There is never any obligation to hire anyone TheLegal.Team matches you with. Many members use the free courses and tools without ever retaining an attorney through the network.

What states do you cover?

The attorney network spans the United States, and foreclosure defense is currently offered in California and Nevada. Coverage in any specific state or city depends on which attorneys are active there at the time you are matched, which is exactly why we ask what city and state this happened in.

Can the case snapshot predict how much money I will get, or what will happen in court?

No. It is a rough estimate built from the details you enter and common patterns in similar cases, not a prediction of your outcome. Only an attorney who has actually reviewed your case can speak to what is likely to happen in it.

Why do you ask for my date of birth?

Attorneys can only take instructions from an adult, so we check that you are 18 or older before matching you. Type it in whatever format is natural to you, such as 03/14/1988 or March 14 1988. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian can complete this for you.

I already have a lawyer. Can I still join?

Yes. The free membership, courses, tools and community are open to anyone, whether or not you use TheLegal.Team to find your attorney.

What is the difference between the case checks and telling you what happened?

The case checks give you an instant, anonymous snapshot with no account and no name. Telling us what happened, at the top of this page, is a short guided conversation that actually creates your request so a real person on the team can start the matching process.

Can I use TheLegal.Team on my phone?

Yes, the whole site, the case checks, the membership and the community are built to work on a phone from the start.

How do I reach a real person?

Tell us what happened at the top of this page, post a question once you are a free member, or email cases@thelegal.team directly.
